Description

Delicious potato and cheese balls with a crispy exterior and a creamy center, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g de pommes de terre (starchy potatoes)
  • 100 g de fromage râpé (cheese like cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 1 œuf
  • 50 g de farine
  • Sel et poivre au goût
  • Huile pour la friture (neutral oil like canola)

Instructions

  1. Cook the potatoes in a pot of boiling water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Once cooked, drain and mash them in a large bowl until smooth.
  2. Add the grated cheese, egg, flour, salt, and pepper to the mashed potatoes. Mix well with a spatula or your hands until a cohesive dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a bit more flour.
  3. Form small balls the size of a walnut with your slightly wet hands. Place them on a plate and let rest for a few minutes.
  4. Heat a good amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. Test the temperature by gently placing a small ball in the oil; if it rises and sizzles, it’s ready.
  5. Fry the balls for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain stable heat.
  6. Drain the fried balls on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot, inviting loved ones to a delightful tasting experience.

Notes

For quicker preparation, make these in advance and store in the fridge for 1-2 days. They can be reheated in a pan for crispiness or baked at 200°C for a lighter option.
