- 500 g d’asperges (fresh asparagus)
- 200 g de jambon sec (thinly sliced prosciutto or country ham)
- 150 g de fromage râpé (Gruyère cheese)
- 200 ml de crème fraîche (or heavy cream)
- 2 œufs
- Sel et poivre au goût
- Beurre pour le plat (butter for baking dish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C.
- Boil the asparagus in boiling water for about 5 minutes, then drain.
- Butter a baking dish generously.
- Arrange the asparagus and ham slices in the dish.
- Whisk the eggs with the crème fraîche, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Pour this mixture over the asparagus and ham.
- Sprinkle the grated cheese on top.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the top is golden and crispy.
- Serve hot.
Notes
Make-ahead by assembling the gratin a day prior and refrigerating it. Add herbs like thyme or chives for extra flavor.
